Site-anti-fourrure-en-english-Mise-en-garde-contre-le-faux-faux. Israël bientôt pays sans fourrure? !!!

THE TRUTH IN FUR LABELING ACT OF 2009
REAL OR FAUX?
Dog & cat fur trade has been outlawed in this country, right? Not so fast!  We keep hearing of high or low end department stores getting caught selling fur that has been outlawed in the United States, but this is a no brainer. There is a loophole on the law that keeps the door open for all sorts of furs to come into the United States exempted from labeling as long as it costs under $150.

Without proper labeling, it is virtually impossible to know what kind of fur one is purchasing, and there is no way to know how much of these skins are circulating on the market, or have made it into households under false pretenses, including as "FAUX!"

How do we protect ourselves from false labels?  First we send the merchandise to be DNA tested in special laboratories, and pay around $500 per test. Then confront the trader and pursue legal venues?  Who will do that?

Meanwhile the fur industry continues selling their offending goods while bills to close this loophole linger on lawmakers' desks. The most recent bills that may have a chance to close this loophole are the H.R.2480 & S.1076 which have gathered many sponsors, but not enough to have them move forward.

Please take a minute to write or call your Reps and ask them to help end the atrocious suffering of innocent animals simply by supporting the bills: "TRUTH IN FUR LABELING ACT" H.R.2480 & S.1076

FUR FARMS: Why don't they want you to know where they are?
OPEN UP! LET'S SEE YOUR FARM!
Fur farmers and fur councils worldwide are fast to accuse animal caring people of being eccentric, tree huggers, and many other less flattering names.  They claim that fur animals are raised humanely and that they live happy lives, just short of saying that their deaths are a bliss...

If so, why aren't fur farms worldwide open to the public to visit and enjoy seeing the beautiful animals while they're still alive?  But lies have short legs, and these hellish places for animals will soon have their addresses posted so people will be free to check them out.

Peter Young, whom just about everyone in the animal rights community knows, has just finished a fabulous investigative work which will ultimately generate a printed address book of fur farms in the United States.  While this important work is in the making, you may check his website for a list of fur farms in the United States.

This is your chance to ask a fur farmer near you to let you visit the animals. This shouldn't be a problem if they have nothing to hide.

For those who don't know Peter Young and his work, we are pleased to introduce him to you on this page:

FUR FREE ISRAEL? HOPE IS IN THE AIR! :-)
GREAT NEWS!
Our friends in Israel and indeed all of us on the other side of the pond have reasons to celebrate:  Israel may go fur free!

A "fur free Israel" would set a blessed precedent for animal caring people worldwide to lobby for fur bearing animals back at home. It is heartbreaking to see that we have not been able to accomplish as much as having the $150 loophole closed in the US. Good for you, Israel!

In a nutshell:  The Israeli Government approved unanimously a bill that brings Israel one step closer to becoming the first fur-free country in the world.  In one of the most important achievements in the combined efforts of the ‘International Anti-Fur Coalition’ and ‘Let the Animals Live’ in their endeavors to protect fur bearing animals, the ministerial committee for legislative affairs accepted their request and approved unanimously the expansion on MK Ronit Tirosh’s bill. The original bill prohibiting only the trade of cat and dog fur was approved on its first reading; but it has now been expanded to include fur from all mammals. The ban includes an exception on specific fur hats worn by a few people for cultural identity.

Dear Anti-Fur Society Members:

Once again I must go and bear witness to the brutal clubbing to death of baby grey seals in a nature reserve in Nova Scotia. I am hopeful the sealers will not find buyers this year and will turn back from the slaughter at the last minute. Government and sealers are also plotting to take the massacre to Sable Island, a federally-protected island in Nova Scotia which is home to the largest breeding colony of grey seals in the world.  If that is allowed to happen it will have catastrophic effects on the grey seal population in this province as well as on the fragile ecosystem of Sable Island.

As the world markets are closing to seal products and pelt prices have plummeted in recent years, last year many sealers stayed home and the planned massacre of 2,200 grey seal pups on Hay Island was scaled down to 250.  That is still 250 too many, and we will not stop until NO seals are killed.

Compassionate and reasonable Nova Scotians oppose the killing of grey seals in Nova Scotia.  Unfortunately, the fishing industry is a strong lobbying force and our government ignores our wishes to retain the fishing vote. The only way to make our voices heard is to hit Nova Scotia where it hurts - economically.  I urge you to send a message to the Nova Scotia government that a tourism boycott is in effect until the seals are protected in Canada.  Thanks for any assistance you can give Nova Scotia's grey seals.
